Bon Odori 2011

Another year has come and gone, so have the Bon Odori Festival Arigatou Malaysia 2011.

Obon (お盆?) or just Bon (盆?) is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the departed (deceased) spirits of one’s ancestors. This Buddhist custom has evolved into a family reunion holiday during which people return to ancestral family places and visit and clean their ancestors’ graves, and when the spirits of ancestors are supposed to revisit the household altars. It has been celebrated in Japan for more than 500 years and traditionally includes a dance, known as Bon-Odori.

In Malaysia, Bon Odori Festivals are also celebrated every year in Penang and at the Matsushita Corp Stadium in Shah AlamSelangor. This celebration, which is a major attraction for the state of Selangor, is the brain child of the Japanese Expatriate & Immigrant’s Society in Malaysia. In comparison to the celebrations in Japan, the festival is celebrated on a much smaller scale in Penang and Selangor, and is less associated with Buddhism and more with Japanese culture. Held mainly to expose locals to a part of Japanese culture, the festival provides the experience of a variety of Japanese food and drinks, art and dance.

JADC members have yet again participated in the Festival as this is one of our club’s annual events.   Here are some photos that was taken.

Many Thanks For Your Support

We, from JADC (Japanese Anime and Drama Club) would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and everyone who had supported our Charity Drive “A Heart For Japan”

Being just us, we could not do much to aid Japan but we managed to lift this Charity Drive off the ground, due to everyone’s support and help.  Being small and alone, there is not much we can do,but together we can do great things.

With this, JADC’s Charity Drive has officially come to an end.

Once again, ありがとう from all of us at JADC.

ありがとう ごんざいます Thank You for your Heart for Japan!

April 23, 2011 Leave a comment

Thank You!

Thank you for showing your endearing support for the Japanese Earthquake Charity Drives and purchasing our T-shirts!

We have sold nearly 600 T-shirts to a lot of people around Malaysia including you! Sometimes, we could not deliver the T-shirts on time because we kept running out of stock when every time new orders came in!

Truly, you must be angels in disguise.

Therefore, JADC would like to reach its ultimate target to sell:

1,000 T-shirts

and all our proceeds will then be channeled to the Red Cross Society of Japan! As more money is raised for Japan, more food, clean water and medical aids can be bought for the affected victims in Sendai.

If you would like to help by ordering our T-shirts, you can click on this link: A Heart for Japan and email your order slips to charity@jadc08.com.

Thank you again for bringing light to the darkest times of the Land of the Rising Sun.

There's still hope.

Help Japan

March 13, 2011 Leave a comment

Japan was hit by one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded on Friday. The magnitude-8.9 quake spawned a deadly tsunami that slammed into the nation’s east coast, leaving a huge swath of devastation in its wake.

We pray for the safety of the thousands of Japanese who were left stranded in the city of Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture.

If you could be of any help to lend support to our foreign neighbors, you can participate in our latest charity drive (above) to raise funds for the Japanese Red Cross Society. Every donation contributes greatly to help the Japanese to rebuild their homeland.
